Our resources are limited. I get it. Time is tight, money is tight. But I’m willing to bet that with a shift in perspective, you’ll find that you actually do have room in your day, and in your budget, to invest in yourself!
Your physical and mental health depend on you distributing your resources in a way that serves you. By reorganizing parts of your schedule and budget, and taking a good look at exactly how you are spending these resources (and on whom), you might see that it isn’t about what you don’t have, but rather just about what you are prioritizing.
When my first child was young, I bent over backwards to ensure that his daily routine included enough sleep, physical activity, outside time, and an incredibly healthy diet. Meanwhile, I was totally sleep deprived, rarely exercised, and was running on coffee and fish crackers! Why did I feel that his well-being was worth my time and energy, but my own wasn’t?
This mindset can continue for years to come. I meet women all the time who spend hundreds of hours, and thousands of dollars on their kids’ sports and activities, yet haven’t set foot in a fitness studio themselves in years. They’ve pressed pause on their own well-being under the premise that they “can’t afford it”, or “don’t have time”. The truth is that you often do have the resources, you have just chosen to put them all into others, and none into yourself.
Your health is not an expense, it is an investment. Taking care of yourself is not a luxury, it is a necessity.
Maybe you have examined your schedule and discovered that by rearranging a few things, you now have time to go Hit the bags a few times a week. Great! Now it’s time to dive into your spending and find where you can make some adjustments that will allow your fitness needs to rank much higher on your spending priority list.
One less dinner out a month, a couple less trips to the coffee shop a week, eliminating the junk food from your grocery cart, and do you really need another pair of black leggings?! Small adjustments can add up in a big way, making what you once viewed as unaffordable, affordable.
It isn’t about how much you have, but about distributing it in a way that serves you best.

It’s just an extra layer of accountability – and we all need that!
You are infinitely valuable, and your wellbeing is vitally important. If you don’t take care of your mental and physical health, who will? The cost that comes from years of neglecting your needs, is much greater than that of investing your time and money in yourself now.
So when you are considering whether you should spend money on your fitness, the truth is that you can’t afford NOT to!
